Place Saint Georges, 22610 Pleubian
(13th century, 1810 - 1814), built by the contractor Levavasseur to plans by Félix Anfray and since restored. Built on the remains of an earlier church dating back to Saint-Maudez and ruined by Norman invasions, the church's oldest pillars date back to the 13th century. In 1729, plans for reconstruction were drawn up by Anfray. From 1813, the work was directed by Levavasseur. Later, for some unexplained reason, the choir and bell tower were reversed, as Saint-Georges did not respect the tradition of having the choir on the east side. The north aisle was rebuilt in 1933, and the south-east aisle in 1848. The double aisles and bell tower were rebuilt in 1886, and organs were installed at the same time. The sacristy was rebuilt in 1889. The church was restored at the end of the 19th century. Saint Yves often came to preach here, in the adjoining priory of Benedictine nuns, built in 1034. The church is home to some pretty banners, a 15th-century polychrome wooden Pieta (from the Rojadou chapel, destroyed in the early 20th century) and statues of Saint Comes and Saint Damien, the relics (the reliquary dates from the 17th century) of Saint Vincent Ferrier (a Spanish preacher who died in Vannes in 1515), the ex-voto statues of Saint Antoine and Napoléon, as well as the model of Saint Georges (early 20th century and the work of sculptor Le Guen). The exterior pulpit dates from the 15th-16th century. The floor is covered with numerous funerary slabs. It should be noted that the original church was placed under the patronage of Saint Peter around 1050. The lords of Kermel and Kermenguy once had preeminence in the church of Pleubian.
