There is mention of a church in Plougras as early as 1330. The lords of Ménez en Plougras were the pre-eminent lords of the church in Plougras. Nothing remains of the building from this period, apart from the window infill in the south chapel.
The church was rebuilt in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. It was restored in 1613, as indicated by the date on the corbel of the seventh bay.
The Beaumanoir-style bell tower and the first two bays of the church were rebuilt in 1978 after the tower collapsed. The 17th-century choir, including the panelling, was rebuilt in 1786 by Jehan Lohou and Yves Le Mat under the direction of Guillaume Penven, rector of Plougras, and restored in 1990.
The porch sandstones were repainted in 1975. The sacristy was built in 1762 by Jean-François Le Diouris, rector of Plougras between 1760 and 1782.
The porch houses a 15th-century statue of the Virgin of Pity and polychrome sablières and panelling.
Of particular note is the exceptional depiction of the dead man carrying the deceased in a wheelbarrow (Karrigell an Ankou) on the polychrome east wall paneling.
